Troubleshooting steps if you see 'unable to disable hotkey' messages:
If you have not done so since installing Interceptor, restart Windows NT.
If you have installed a service pack, you must reinstall Interceptor and then restart Windows NT.
We have learned have that Microsoft Intellimouse mice (and similar mice with a middle scroll button) use a different Microsoft input port driver to normal mice. This means that Interceptor reports that it is unable to disable hotkeys. If you see this message check whether you are using a Microsoft Intellimouse, or whether you have the Intellimouse software installed (you can see this on the Start Menu and in the Control Panel). Some PC manufacturers are now installing the software but shipping normal mice. If so, see the workaround below.
Some manufacturers may ship PCs without the 'usual' Microsoft keyboard/mouse. To check for this, go to the 'Devices' option on the Control Panel. Device i8042prt should be shown as 'Started'. Other keyboard drivers may be called msi8042 or have a different name, but you should be able to tell from the device name if it is a keyboard driver. If i8042prt is not started and if you have a different driver running, see the workaround below.
Workaround:
Go to the Control Panel (in the My Computer folder), select Keyboard and then select the 'General' tab - make a note of what is displayed there for the Keyboard type. If it is not: PC/AT Enhanced Keyboard (101/102-Key) select Change and (after a short wait) NT should bring up a list of options. Select the PC/AT Enhanced Keyboard (101/102-Key) and OK. On some systems, the 'Change' button appears grayed-out and no choices are available.
Now select the 'Devices' option on the Control Panel. If device msi8042 or another keyboard driver (other than i8042prt) is shown as 'Started then select 'Startup' and set it to 'Disabled. Then select the i8042prt device, which should be shown as Disabled. Select 'Startup' and set it to 'System'. Check that you do not 'disable' both! Double-check and triple-check.
You must now restart the PC. Note that the middle scroll button on the mouse won't function with this workaround. There is no fix for this yet. If one is developed the details will be posted here. We apologize for any inconvenience.
